What do you get by staying in your comfort zone?
Exactly what you already have.
What do you have the potential to gain by stepping out of it?
Anything you want to.
Imagine your comfort zone as a circle that is around you. As you push at the edges of the circle, it gets bigger. And here’s the cool thing. If doesn’t snap back into place like an elastic band. It stays bigger.
If you push at the edges of your comfort zone, more things fit into the circle, so you are able to find more things comfortable. Imagine you feel that public speaking is uncomfortable. You could start with a small speaking gig, perhaps you ask a question in a group where you wouldn’t usually. Perhaps you volunteer to read out the ticket numbers at the school tombola. It doesn’t matter what it is, you could give yourself chances to build your skill in a non-threatening way. One step at a time.
Sometimes, where we dream of being feels like a long way from where we are now. It will always be that far away unless you take steps towards it. Each step doesn’t need to be a big one. But you need to move forwards. If you stay in your circle and don’t make it bigger, you can’t complain that your dream doesn’t get any closer.
There are things that you could do that will help you to push the edges of your comfort zone. You can identify what your values and purpose in life is. You can take notice of what beliefs are holding you back. You can answer your own concerns about ‘what if’ scenarios.
You don’t have to do this alone. I have created a series of videos that will talk you through each of these options, two of which come with worksheets to help you keep track of your progress. If you’d like to sign up for these, you can do that here.
Your comfort zone will still be there for you to come back to. It can feel as though if you step out of it, it will disappear behind you. It won’t. All of your experiences, your home, family, friends, belongings, feelings, they will still be there. So even if you take a big step outside of your circle, you can always come back to it once the challenge is over. So I’ll ask you again:

Anything you want to. What small step could you take today to push out the edges of your circle to make it a little bit bigger, and a little more comfortable? Tell me when you’ve done it! And remember that you can sign up to get the video series here.
